Phased Re-Gathering Plan for Churches Moved to RED

On Thursday, Nov. 19, Bishop Bruce R. Ough turned the dial on the Minnesota Conference's Phased Re-Gathering Plan for Churches from orange back to red. The Bishop explained that he is “alarmed and frightened” because the coronavirus pandemic is so out of control in Minnesota and most of the country. He cited deep concern for front-line health care workers who are exhausted and hospitals that are overwhelmed. He shared that the Minnesota Department of Health told faith leaders in their most recent call that when we gather with others outside our homeswe are not just at risk for exposure, we can expect to be exposed to COVID-19.That is how rampant the community spread currently is across our state.

The Bishop has asked all Minnesota United Methodists to redouble efforts to keep people safe in our families, communities, and churches by staying home, not gathering for Thanksgiving with people beyond your immediate household, wearing masks and adhering to proper social distancing at all times.

How does the RED Phase affect WBLUMC?

Between midnight Nov. 20 and Dec. 18, 2020, we will make the following changes:

  • Our building will be CLOSED and office hours will be suspended. Staff will work from home. Please email staff members directly or send general questions to

  • All meetings and activities at the church will be suspended.  Community and church groups with meetings or activities already on the calendar are being notified of this suspension.

  • Choir/music recording that must take place in the Sanctuary will go forward with tightened restrictions for mask-wearing, social distancing and capacity limitations.

ONLINE WORSHIP will continue at 10am each Sunday; in-person indoor Sunday services have been suspended. The Pastors and staff will continue discussions about scheduling in-person indoor worship experiences in the coming weeks, specifically relating to Christmas Eve.
